Jessica Milner Davis et sa collègue Marguerite Wells sont à l'origine de cet ouvrage sur le rire et l'humour au Japon. Leur rencontre en 1996 à l'occasion d'un colloque à Sydney (Australie) a inspiré la mise en commun des compétences de Jessica sur la farce et celles de Marguerite sur le Kyogen.
C'est un regard croisé du plus grand intérêt enrichi des approches de plusieurs chercheurs japonais reconnus dans ce domaine encore singulier au Japon. Jessica a contribué à la création de l'Australasian Humour Studies Network en Australie, une association avec laquelle nous entretenons d'excellents échanges.
